The inadvertent expat blogger behind Bench Market Panel

Hi there, I'm Sophie
I work as a project manager. I'm a parent and an expat based in New York, United States.
Several years back, I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term assignment gradually became a new chapter of life overseas.
How It Began
Moving to United States wasn't in our long-range plan. Like many expat relocations, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far larger.
The initial months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, new routines, new expectations. Everyday tasks seemed more complicated than they should.
The Transition Phase
There was culture shock, ambiguity, and plenty of hands-on learning. Yet gradually, routines formed. We discovered places that fit our needs, met other families, and began creating something that felt enduring.
Why I Created Bench Market Panel
Most information online was either corporate relocation advice or surface-level tourism material. What was missing was honest, day-to-day family perspective.
This site aims to bridge that gap — practical guidance drawn from real life in United States.
What This Site Is (And Isn't)
This site is:
- Hands-on insights from living in United States
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated whenever something meaningful changes
This site isn't:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- Not a sponsored review platform
- Not a generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our stay in United States goes on, as does the learning journey. As long as the information remains helpful, I will continue recording what we uncover.
If you have questions about family life in New York or across United States, don't hesitate to contact me.
Best regards,
Sophie
